Is That Job Really Worth It? Let’s Break It Down 🖤

Hey Reader!

I know how exciting it is to get a job offer—especially when the salary looks right and the position seems promising. But before you hit "accept," let’s take a step back. Not all offers are as good as they seem.

The fine print matters, and so do you. Is the pay truly aligned with your experience and skills? Are the benefits setting you up for success? And let’s not forget about company culture—because no paycheck can make up for a toxic work environment.

This week, I want to make sure you’re stepping into your next role with confidence, knowing you’re getting what you truly deserve. A job is more than a title and a paycheck—it’s an investment in your future.

You should never feel pressured to accept an offer just because it’s on the table. You have options. And most importantly, you have power in this process.

Before you say “yes,” ask yourself these key questions:

Is the salary competitive? Research similar roles in your industry and location so you know the market rate. Websites like Glassdoor, Payscale, and LinkedIn Salary Insights can give you a good benchmark. Don’t let them lowball you.

What’s the full compensation package? Salary is just one part of the deal. Look at health benefits, PTO, retirement contributions, stock options, tuition reimbursement, and wellness perks. Sometimes a slightly lower salary can still be a better opportunity if the benefits are strong.

What’s the work-life balance really like? Does the company encourage time off, or is there an unspoken expectation to always be available? Check employee reviews and ask about work-life balance during interviews. Your peace of mind is priceless.

Is there room for growth? A good job won’t just pay you—it will develop you. Ask about promotion timelines, mentorship programs, and professional development opportunities. If they can’t answer these questions clearly, that’s a red flag.

Does this job align with my values and goals? A paycheck is important, but so is your happiness. If a company’s mission, leadership, or office culture doesn’t sit right with you, trust that feeling. You don’t have to compromise your values for a job.

And let’s talk about negotiation.

Most job offers are negotiable, yet many of us hesitate to ask for more. Don’t be afraid to negotiate your salary, bonus structure, remote work options, or even professional development stipends.

Companies expect candidates to counteroffer, and the worst they can say is no. But more often than not, they’ll meet you somewhere in the middle.

At the end of the day, the right job isn’t just about the money—it’s about how it fits into your life. A role that drains you, disrespects your time, or doesn’t invest in your growth isn’t a step forward. You deserve an opportunity that recognizes your talent and respects your time, energy, and career goals.

So before you say yes, take your time, ask the right questions, and make sure the offer truly aligns with YOU. ✨💼

Best,
'Tine

Hey Reader! Let’s be honest — a lot of us were raised to push through. To keep our heads down. To be “strong” no matter what. So when burnout creeps in, or doubt starts whispering, our first instinct is to handle it ourselves. But here’s the truth: We’re not meant to do this alone. And we’re not meant to wait until we hit a wall to reach for support. Too many Black women carry the weight of a whole household, a whole team, a whole vision — without having anyone to carry them. We’ve been...
